Creighton Nips Ladyjacks
Sept. 2, 2007
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Despite spending a majority of the minutes in their opponent's defensive backfield, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks suffered a 1-0 loss against Creighton Sunday at the SFA Soccer Complex.
Around the midway point of the second half, a centering pass from Creighton (2-0-0) midfielder Katy Peetz found Marcy Gans in open ground just in front of the SFA net, and she poked a low shot to the left of Ladyjack goalkeeper Crystin Pactor for the game's only goal. The single score, which came in the 61st minute, proved to be enough, as SFA couldn't convert on its offensive opportunities.
The Ladyjacks earned 12 corner kicks for the contest, including seven in the second half, but were unable to finish on those chances. SFA tallied just nine shots for the match and only one shot on goal. Creighton 'keeper Kristen Casey played aggressively, leaving the net to snuff out SFA's attacks before they became serious threats. The strategy paid off, as she was only forced to make one save. At the other end of the field, Pactor turned in four saves as the Bluejays took 13 shots.
The game was a physical match-up, with the two teams combining for 23 fouls and four yellow cards.
With the loss, SFA evens its record at 1-1-0. The Ladyjacks will return to action Friday when they travel to Lubbock, Texas, to take on Texas Tech. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. start.
