Ladyjacks Throttle McNeese State
Sept. 24, 2003
The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team defeated McNeese State, 2-1, Wednesday night at the SFA Intramural Complex. The Ladyjacks are now 5-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the Southland Conference.
The game was a defensive struggle early as neither team was able to find the back of the net. The Ladyjacks were on the attack in the first half out shooting McNeese State, 20-2, but Cowgirls' goalkeeper Toni Deason was up to the challenge, blocking every shot on goal.
The Ladyjacks' defense got stronger as the game went on and sophomore Kendra Cannon broke the tie with her goal at the 64:12 mark. Junior Christie Mestayer was credited with the assist. The SFA offense was on the march again only six minutes later when Cannon netted her second goal of the game.
The Cowgirls netted a goal as time ran out, but it was too little, too late as the Ladyjacks were victorious in the Southland Conference opener.
The Ladyjacks out shot McNeese State, 33-5. SFA is now undefeated in its last six games.
The Ladyjacks will put their streak on the line Friday night when they face Texas State. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
