Hunt Scores Game-Winner In OT To Beat Bearkats
Oct. 6, 2013
HUNTSVILLE, Texas - For already a fourth time this season the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team was forced to play more than 90 minutes, but the wait was worth it on Sunday. Freshman Hailey Hunt scored the game-winning goal in overtime to beat Sam Houston State 1-0 Sunday afternoon for SFA's fourth straight win.
The Ladyjacks (9-2-1, 4-1-0) posted their league-leading ninth shutout of the season in the victory and are now just four shutouts shy of tying the school record (13) set the past two seasons.
Hunt's goal, her fourth of the season, came in the 95th minute. SFA outshot the Bearkats 21-11 and 9-2 shots on goal.
"What a game, today both teams came to play and were relentless in their pressure," SFA head coach Wally Crittenden said. "As a coach you always want to impose yourself on the other team, but as a fan these are the games that entertain for sure. Sam Houston's goalkeeper was tremendous and she was able to make some fantastic saves in critical moments to keep it at zeros. I am very proud of our players and their willingness to adapt and focus on their tasks. It is that mental discipline that will continue to put us in positions to be successful."
The Ladyjacks will host a pair of SLC games next weekend, beginning with McNeese State on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m., followed by Abilene Christian on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
