HAMMOND, La. – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team recorded their seventh consecutive shutout and win in a 2-0 triumph over Southeastern Louisiana Friday afternoon at the Southeastern Soccer Complex.

SFA (12-2-1, 7-1 SLC) is now in sole possession of first place in the Southland Conference with the win over the Lady Lions (11-3-1, 6-2 SLC). The shutout is the 12th for the Ladyjacks on the season and extends their current winning streak to seven games as they continue to add to their best start in program history.

“There is no doubt that both teams came prepared today,” SFA head soccer coach Wally Crittenden said. “What a great game between two talented teams that have had good seasons so far. I was very pleased with our ability to absorb their emotion and positive moments and quickly shift back into a mentality displaying focus and a commitment to tactics that reflect our skill set as a team.

“No doubt we were tested today, on the road, and our players were prepared to execute and make plays at critical moments. It is exciting when those attributes define any performance.”

The SFA defense, currently ranked atop the nation in shutout percentage, held the opposition to five shots on across the 90 minutes of play while taking nine as a team. The Ladyjacks also held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Senior midfield Megan Wasiak scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a header in the 35th minute of play. The goal was the third of the season for the upperclassman and came off of a corner kick from fellow senior Melissa Gaudet.

Junior forward Zuri Prince added another goal for SFA the closing minutes to make it 2-0 in favor of the Ladyjacks. Prince scored her fifth goal of the season in the 87th minute of play, with the assist going to both junior Chelsea Raymond and freshman Kelly Ann Craig.

Senior goalkeeper Lacey Lee improved to 8-1 on the season, making all three saves in the match, before rotating with junior Morgan Glick at the half.

The Ladyjacks will look to continue their success when they return home to take on Nicholls State on Oct. 20 at 1:00 p.m.
