Howard Resigns As Women's Soccer Head Coach
April 5, 2000
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin athletic director Steve McCarty announced today the resignation of head women's soccer coach Tony Howard, effective at the end of the month.
"I appreciate the effort that Tony has put in to maintain the high level of play of the Ladyjack soccer program. I also understand the conflicts created between job and family when coaching at the Division I level. I wish Coach Howard all the best in the future," said McCarty.
In announcing his decision to resign, Howard cited the fact that his wife could not receive a transfer to the Nacogdoches area with her employer. Due to that fact and other family concerns, Howard decided that it was in the best interest of his family that he resign.
Howard coached one season at SFA, compiling a 7-9-3 overall record, while finishing in fourth place in the Southland Conference with an SLC mark of 6-3-3. SFA was eliminated in the first round of the SLC post season soccer tournament.
A search for a replacement will begin immediately.
