2013 Ladyjacks Schedule
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin head coach Wally Crittenden announced on Thursday the 2013 Ladyjacks soccer schedule, one that includes a plethora of top-notch non-conference programs.
The Ladyjacks will play 20 scheduled games in 2013, with 10 matches at home and 10 on the road. SFA, who went 17-4 last season en route to a 2012 SLC regular season and tournament title, will face eight non-conference opponents including members of the SEC, Big 12, Pac-12, Big East, Sun Belt, Conference USA and WAC.
“I am really excited about the fall of 2013 schedule,” Crittenden said. “It features the caliber of teams that will help prepare us to be in the best form possible come November. Our home games will be fantastic with great crowds I am sure, and our away games are in great locations against very successful teams. This is the kind of schedule both our players, as well as our staff, want to play. From a fan’s perspective, our Nacogdoches community will be in a position to watch our Ladyjacks take on some the best teams that the SEC, Pac 12, and Big 12 have to offer right here at home within the SFA Soccer Complex in matches versus Arizona State, LSU, and Texas. We will all be excited to kick off fall camp in August with this schedule waiting for us.”
The Ladyjacks will open the season Aug. 23 on the road at Rice, a team that SFA is 1-5-0 all-time against including a 1-0 win over the Owls last season in Nacogdoches. SFA will then return to Nacogdoches for their home opener against former SLC rival Texas State on Aug. 25. The Ladyjacks are 9-11-2 all-time against Texas State, but did get a bit of revenge following their 1-0 2011 SLC Tournament loss to the Bobcats with a 1-0 win in San Marcos last season.
SFA returns to the city of Houston on Aug. 30 when they take on the Cougars for a second straight season. The two teams opened the 2012 campaign against each other last year at the SFA Soccer Field where the Ladyjacks began the season with a 2-0 victory. SFA is 4-4-0 all-time versus Houston.
Following the match against the Cougars, SFA will return home for the first ever meeting against the Pac-12’s Arizona State for a rare 11:30 a.m. Sunday contest. The Sun Devils went 10-9-2 last season and 6-4-1 in the highly competitive Pac-12 play, advancing to the NCAA Tournament. SFA will then play back-to-back road contests in the southwest against New Mexico State (Sept. 6) and UTEP (Sept. 8).
The Ladyjacks final two non-conference games will both be played at home, first against SEC-foe LSU on Sept. 13, marking the first time the Tigers will ever make a visit to Nacogdoches. SFA is 0-3-0 all-time against LSU. Perhaps the highlight of the home schedule will be on Oct. 25, when with three conference games left in the regular season the Texas Longhorns will make their first-ever trip to SFA for a 7 p.m. Friday match. The only other time SFA and UT played each other was a 1-0 Longhorn victory in 2007 played in Austin.
SFA opens SLC play Sept. 20 at home against Oral Roberts and two days later will host Northwestern State on Sept. 22. The Ladyjacks then travel to Beaumont on Sept. 27 for a rematch of last season’s SLC Tournament Championship versus Lamar before returning home on Oct. 4 against new conference member Houston Baptist.
On Oct. 6 the Ladyjacks travel to Huntsville for a showdown against Piney Woods rival Sam Houston State, marking the first time the two teams will faceoff away from Nacogdoches in the last three years.
The Ladyjacks return home following the SHSU match to host four of the next five matches at the SFA Soccer Field, beginning with an Oct. 11 game versus McNeese State. First-year SLC member Abilene Christian will then make their first ever trip to Nacogdoches on Oct. 13. SFA makes their final regular season trip to the state of Louisiana on Oct. 18 to Hammond, La. against Southeastern Louisiana, followed by the final home conference match against Nicholls on Oct. 20.
SFA will end the 2013 regular season schedule with three consecutive road games, beginning on Oct. 27 at Central Arkansas, followed by a Nov. 1 match against first-year soccer program Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Ladyjacks regular season finale will be Nov. 3 in San Antonio against first-year conference member Incarnate Word.
The 2013 Southland Conference Tournament will be held Nov. 7-10 in Lake Charles, La. on the campus of McNeese State, marking the second-straight season to be there.
