    Ladyjack Soccer 2000 Recruiting Class Announced

    NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer program has announced the signing of its 2000 recruiting class.

    Sophia Pantazis * 5-7 * Forward * Kingwood High School Kingwood, Texas * Eclipse Club Team

    Sophia Pantazis, a four-year letter winner in soccer, will join the Ladyjacks next fall. Pantazis, a forward from Kingwood High School, was a member of the 1998 Regional Champion Team. During Pantazis' high school career she was named a member of the All-District Second Team (1997-98).

    "We are excited to have Sophia become a vital addition to our scoring corps. She will add many opportunities for teammates as well as herself to score goals. She will be an explosive offensive player," said Coach Tony Howard.

    Leslie Felderhoff * 5-8 * Defender/Midfielder * Bishop Lynch High School Garland, Texas * TX Longhorn Club Team

    Leslie Felderhoff, a defender/midfielder from Bishop Lynch High School, was a four-year letter winner. Felderhoff was a captain of both her high school and club teams (1998-2000). She was named Rookie of the Year after her 1997 season. Felderhoff's high school team placed third at the state tournament in 1998. Felderhoff has been an honor student at Bishop Lynch High School.

    "We are looking forward to Leslie's solid midfield playing ability. She will open many opportunities for scoring situations. Leslie will make an impact during the 2000 season," said Coach Tony Howard.

    Andra Brown * 5-5 * Forward * McKinney High School McKinney, Texas * TX Longhorn Club Team

    Andra Brown will be expected to play forward for the Ladyjacks in the fall. Brown, a four-year letter winner in soccer at McKinney High School, was named to the All-District Second Team during both the 1998 and 1999 seasons. Brown was also named the MVP of the 1999 Bronco Invitational Tournament. Brown has excelled academically in the classroom by being named an honor student at McKinney High School and a member of Who's Who Among American High School Students. Brown has also lettered in track and field.

    "Andra has an incredible ability to score goals due to her strength and speed. We look for Andra to also create opportunities for her teammates to score. She is a leader, and we are anxious to see her compete on our turf," said Coach Tony Howard.

    Becky Nelson * 5-8 * Defender * Sam Rayburn High School * Pasadena, Texas * Wildfire Club Team

    Becky Nelson, a defender from Sam Rayburn High School, will enter the Ladyjack program with a long list of achievements. Nelson was named to the All-District First Team (1997-99) and named the Rookie of the Year during the 1997 season. Nelson was also named the Player of the Year at Sam Rayburn High School (1998,99). Nelson has excelled in the classroom by achieving academic excellence (1998,99).

    "We are looking forward to Becky's defensive style of play. She can relentlessly shut down opponents. Her ball clearing skills and marking abilities will be valuable to the Ladyjacks as she makes her career out of shutting down opponents in the defensive third," said Coach Tony Howard.

    Heather Matchette * 5-10 * Goalkeeper * Woodcreek High School * Rio Linda, California * San Juan Spirits Club Team

    Heather Matchette will join the Ladyjacks in the fall as a goalkeeper. While at Woodcreek High School, Matchette was a team captain. Matchette earned All-League Honorable Menton during the 1999 season. Matchette was also named her team's Defensive MVP. In the classroom Matchette received the Academic Merit Award.

    "We are looking forward to Heather being a key part of our defensive structure. She will compete strongly for the starting position and will help keep many opponents out of the goal," said Coach Tony Howard.

    Ashley King * 5-7 * Midfielder * Lewisville High School Lewisville, Texas * Hawks Club Team

    Ashley King, a Lewisville High School senior, will join the Ladyjacks in the fall as a midfielder. King, a four-year letter winner, has served as team captain from 1998-99. King has been named to the Plano Invitational as well as the 5A State Tournament all-tournament teams (1998-99). King has also landed All-District First Team honors (1998). During the 1999 season King was named the Lady Farmer Most Valuable Soccer Player. King has been named to the honor roll while at Lewisville High School.

    "We are looking forward to Ashley becoming a key component in solidifying our midfield. She will contribute her talents aggressively and skillfully while shutting down opponents and creating opportunities for offensive attacks. Her speed, skill and strength will be a very valuable part of the success of our program next fall," said Coach Tony Howard.

    Alison Corbett * 5-8 * Defender * Lawrence Elkins High School Missouri City, Texas * Eclipse Club Team

    Alison Corbett, a 5'8" defender from Lawrence High School was named a Wendy's High School Heisman Nominee (1999). Corbett received All-District First Team honors during the 1999 season and District Honorable Mention honors during the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Corbett has excelled in the classroom by earning the National Merit Award.

    "Alison has a stellar defensive game. She has the ability to shut down opponents and keep them from scoring. She will be a leader in our defensive game during her career at Stephen F. Austin, " said Coach Tony Howard.

    Allison Lawrence * 5-5 * Midfielder * Kingwood High School Kingwood, Texas * Eclipse Club Team

    Allison Lawrence, a midfielder from Kingwood High School, will enter the Ladyjack soccer program in the fall. During her career at Kingwood High School, Lawrence and her team claimed both regional and state champion honors.

    "Allison plays hard both offensively and defensively. She helps maintain a balance in the center of the field. We are excited about adding her physical style of play and aggressive instinct," said Coach Tony Howard.

    Nicole Horn * 5-7 * Forward * Klein High School Spring, Texas * Demolition Club Team

    Nicole Horn, a forward from Klein High School, was named to the All-District First Team (1998,99), Fort Bend All-Tournament Team (1999), All-Region Team (1999) and the Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston Second Team (1999). Horn has been named an All-District MVP (1999) and the Angleton Invitational MVP (1999). Horn's team placed third at state during the 1999 season. In the classroom Horn has gained Who's Who Among American High School Students honors.

    "Nicole enters the game energetic and determined to score on her opponents. With her game, she will bring speed, finesse and endurance. This will be instrumental throughout the 2000 season. She will help propel our offensive attacks," said Coach Tony Howard.

    Amy William * 5-6 * Forward * Arlington Martin High School Arlington, Texas * Lightning Club Team

    Amy William, a forward from Arlington Martin High School, will join the Ladyjacks in the fall as a walk-on.

    "Amy will make an impact on our offense with her quickness, finesse and skill. She is a tireless worker who will add to our scoring game. Ami is very determined, never stops and is very physical in her approach to find the net," said Coach Tony Howard.
