2017 Soccer Schedule

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
The summer break is upon us, but the Stephen F. Austin Soccer team is already looking ahead to their 2017 season, which starts the second week of August. Head coach Wally Crittenden is excited to announce that Ladyjack Soccer will have 20 matches throughout the upcoming season with nine of those contests at home.

"As we welcome the 2017 squad to preseason in August, they will return to campus with a fantastic non-conference schedule waiting for them to get the season started.  There is no doubt that our exhibition with Rice on the road will prepare us for our opening weekend against Mississippi State and Southern Miss in Mississippi," said Crittenden.

The Ladyjacks first event of the 2017 season will take place on August 11 on the SFA Soccer Field as a purple vs. white intersquad scrimmage. Then, the exhibition game against Rice will take place down in Houston on August 13 at 6:00 pm. Afterwards, SFA will take an extended road trip east to the "Magnolia State" as they face Mississippi State and Southern Mississippi on August 18 and 20, respectively. SFA will stay on the road the following week with a match against UT-San Antonio on August 25.

The first weekend in September will feature a two-game home stand with Texas Southern and Texas State coming into town. The 2017 home opener against Texas Southern will have a 7:00 p.m. first kick on Friday, September 1, and the game against Texas State will have a 1:00 p.m. first kick on Sunday, September 3.

The next contest is against a rare opponent, New Mexico State. The Ladyjacks and the Aggies have only clashed once in program history back in 2013. Therefore, September 8 will be a showdown that fans will not want to miss. Following the New Mexico trip, SFA will stay on the road at UTEP for a game on Sunday, September 10.

"By the end of September, we will have a great idea as to where we are and where we need to go to make another run at the Southland titles in both the league and the tournament," Crittenden went on.  "With games against SEC, Conference USA, SWAC, WAC, Sun-Belt, and the Big 12 our players will be in demanding environments and will get great opportunities to make their mark on the team, and their positions, heading into SLC Conference play."

Conference play begins with SFA hosting Northwestern State, Houston Baptist, and Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. The Ladyjacks have a four-game home stand starting September 15 versus Northwestern State. SFA will then take a short reprieve from conference play to host TCU that following Sunday at 1:00 p.m. HBU and Texas A&M - Corpus Christi come into town the next weekend with the Huskies on Friday, September 22, and Islanders on Sunday, September 24.

SFA will then take three games on the road starting September 29 against McNeese, then Lamar on October 1, and Central Arkansas on October 6.

The Ladyjacks last two home games will be against Southern Louisiana and Nicholls State. The Lions will come to Nacogdoches on Friday, October 13, while the Nicholls Colonels will be here on Sunday, October 15.

SFA will play its last three conference games on the road. They will travel to San Antonio to face UIW on October 20, followed by a trip to Abilene Christian on Sunday, October 22. The final regular season game of 2017 will be the rivalry match of SFA versus Sam Houston in Huntsville on Friday, October 27.

The 2017 Southland Conference Tournament is set to start on November 1 through November 5 in Corpus Christ, Texas.

"We have a lot of talent on this team, extremely high competitive character, and I can't wait to see how the roster and our rotations shape up," finished Crittenden. "It is going to be an exciting fall for sure."
