GAME NOTES: Texas Tech/TCU

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team will look to carry over their early season success this weekend when they travel to Fort Worth for to take part in the TCU Invitational tournament, starting Friday at 5 p.m. against Texas Tech. Following that match the Ladyjacks will face the host TCU Horned Frogs Sunday at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team added the finishing touches to a stellar season-opening weekend with an 8-0 victory at Jackson State Sunday afternoon. Senior midfielder Kylie Louw collected six total points (4 assists, 1 goal) and set the SFA all-time, single-game assists record. The six points were also good enough for the third-most points in a contest.
Texas Tech Series History/Scouting Report: Texas Tech leads the all-time series against SFA (3-0-1). The last time the two schools met was back in 2003 when the Ladyjacks played the Red Raiders to a 1-1 tie in Nacogdoches. Texas Tech is off to a 2-0 start following wins over Idaho (2-1) and New Mexico (2-0). The Red Raiders are currently ranked fourth in the NSCAA Central Region Poll.
TCU Series History/Scouting Report: Although TCU leads the all-time series against SFA, 6-1-0, it is the Ladyjacks who have the fresh taste of success in their mouth after last season’s 3-2 victory over the Horned Frogs last season in Nacogdoches. Prior to that contest TCU had outscored SFA 29-4 in the previous six contests. The Horned Frogs are coming off a 1-1 tie in their season-opener at New Mexico.
Vernon Tabbed Player of the Week: Stephen F. Austin senior Breanne Vernon was selected the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday. Vernon played an integral role in helping the Ladyjacks hold both Houston and Jackson State scoreless in SFA’s opening weekend wins. The senior from Calgary, Alberta (Ernest Manning H.S.), helped the SFA backline hold the Cougars to just three shots goal. Vernon also scored a goal against Jackson State on just one attempt. This marks the fourth time Vernon was the recipient of the Defensive POW, also claiming the award three times in 2011.
Ladyjacks Tabbed 10th in NSCAA Poll: In 2011 the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team appeared just once in the NSCAA Top 10 Central Poll, that coming at the end of the regular season. On Tuesday, just one week into the 2012 season, SFA has already caught the eyes of the experts and comes in at No. 10 in the initial NSCAA Central Poll. The Ladyjacks have gotten off to a roaring start, defeating the University of Houston 2-0 in the season-opener in Nacogdoches, followed by an 8-0 road victory at Jackson State on Sunday.

Olympic Ladyjack: Current Ladyjack Kylie Louw just finished representing South Africa at the London Olympics this summer. Louw played and started in all three matches against Sweden, Canada and Japan. South Africa dropped their first two games before playing Japan to a 0-0 draw resulting in the countries first-ever Olympic point.
TopDrawerSoccer Rankings: The Ladyjack soccer team opens the 2012 season ranked 51st in the nation according to the initial rankings byTopDrawerSoccer.com. The Tournament 64 National Ranking is a one-of-a-kind effort to rank the top women's college soccer teams and also project the post-season NCAA Tournament field, including all of the automatic qualifiers from 30 eligible Division I conferences. The ranking is updated every Monday morning through the season.
Southland Conference Polls: The Southland Conference announced on Aug. 8th its preseason soccer polls and all-conference teams and as expected the defending SLC champion Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks have been picked to win the 2012 regular season championship by both the league's coaches and sports information directors. The Ladyjacks earned eight first-place votes and 64 points from the coaches to edge out Lamar's 52 points while earning 63 points and seven first-place votes in the SID poll, edging Lamar's 51 points.
