Ladyjacks To Host Central Arkansas, Northwestern State

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will look to stay undefeated in Southland Conference play as it returns home to host a pair of games this weekend. SFA will take on Central Arkansas Friday at 7 p.m. and entertain Northwestern State Sunday at 2 p.m. The Ladyjacks enter the week tied for the SLC lead with a 2-0-1 mark in conference games and a 6-3-2 record overall. Central Arkansas is 6-6-0 on the year and 3-1-0 in league action. Northwestern State is the only team in the conference with a better SLC record than the Ladyjacks. The Demons are 10-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in league play.
Last Week: SFA played back-to-back double-overtime games on its Central Texas road trip over the weekend. The Ladyjacks finished Friday's game at Texas-San Antonio in a scoreless tie after 110 minutes of action, then got a goal midway through the second overtime period Sunday to notch a 2-1 victory at Texas State. Junior defender Jessica Cotton headed home the game-winner Sunday on a corner kick by Lauren Fricks. SFA's first goal was scored by Kelli Wilson with Fricks again getting the assist. Sophomore goalkeeper Crystin Pactor recorded seven saves Friday in her second career shutout and tied a career-high with nine saves in Sunday's win.
SFA vs. the Bears: The Ladyjacks are 0-1-0 against Central Arkansas, having lost last year's inaugural meeting. The Bears took a 1-0 win against SFA in Conway, Ark., last september.
SFA vs. the Demons: The Ladyjacks are 11-6-3 (.625) all-time against Northwestern State. SFA has won five straight against the Demons and is unbeaten in the last six meetings. The last Northwestern State win in the series was a 4-0 decision in Nacogdoches in 2002. SFA is 5-3-2 all-time at home against the Demons.
The Coaches: Jaime Frias is in his third year as head coach of the Ladyjack soccer team. He carries a career record of 29-15-3 (.649), including a 14-2-2 (.833) mark against Southland Conference foes. In her seventh year with the program, Tina Banham has led the Bears to a 59-52-4 (.530) record. Jimmy Mitchell is 94-69-15 (.570) in his ninth season as head coach at Northwestern State.
Next Week: SFA will head east for another two-game road trip. The Ladyjacks take on McNeese State on Oct. 26 in a 4 p.m. contest before heading to Beaumont, Texas, for an 11 a.m. game against Lamar on Oct. 28.
