    SFA SLC Tourney Notes

    NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks soccer team will face the winner of the No. 4 Oral Roberts/No. 5 Sam Houston State match in the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament Friday, Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m. at Cowgirl Field on the campus of McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. If SFA were to win that match, they would play in the SLC Tournament title match for a second straight season.

    Last Time Out: SFA completed their second straight perfect Southland Conference regular season (8-0-0) with a 4-2 victory over Nicholls State Friday afternoon. SFA (15-3-0, 8-0-0) tied the 2011 and 2003 Ladyjacks with their school-record 15th victory in a single-season by outshooting the Colonels 17-10. Senior forward Laura Sadler, who this week was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, scored two first-half goals. The Ladyjacks have now won 19 consecutive regular season conference games dating back to 2010, the longest streak in SLC history. In Tony Amato’s three years at SFA the Ladyjacks are now 22-2-1 in conference play in the regular season.

    Oral Roberts Series History/Scouting Report: SFA and Oral Roberts have tied the all-time series 4-4 but the Ladyjacks have won the last four meetings, including a 5-0 decision on Oct. 1 this season in Nacogdoches. In that contest both Kylie Louw and Zuri Prince scored two goals a piece and Laura Sadler added another. SFA outshot the Golden Eagles 21-2 in the game and 13-2 SOG.

    Sam Houston State Series History/Scouting Report: The Ladyjacks lead the all-time series against the Bearkats, 10-2, and defeated SHSU 4-0 in Nacogdoches on Oct. 19. In that contest four different Ladyjacks recorded goals and assists. The Bearkats do have one of the best keepers in the conference in newly named Freshman of the Year Kylie Hambleton.

    SFA Dominates Southland Conference Awards: Stephen F. Austin senior midfielder Kylie Louw was named the 2012 Southland Conference Soccer Player of the Year for the third consecutive year by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors, the conference office announced Tuesday in conjunction with the release of the all-conference soccer teams. Tony Amato was also recognized for the Ladyjacks standout season by being voted the Southland Conference Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons. 

    SFA (15-3-0, 8-0-0), which claimed its seventh regular-season championship to earn the No. 1 seed entering this week’s Southland Conference Soccer Tournament, holds a league-best seven first-team all-conference team members, which is the most for one team in conference history. The Ladyjacks also placed one student-athlete on the second team, giving SFA eight all-conference selections overall. 

    Joining Louw on the first-team for SFA are two-time selections sophomore forward Chelsea Raymond, senior midfielder Laura Sadler, senior defender Breanne Vernon and junior goalkeeper Lacey Lee. Earning first-team honors for the first time for the Ladyjacks is sophomore midfielder Zuri Prince and sophomore defender Megan Dunnigan.

    Earning second-team all-conference recognition for the Ladyjacks is senior defender Leslie Shurtleff. The Southlake, Texas, native helped contribute to the SFA defense that posted 13 shutouts on the season.

    Ladyjacks In The Polls: One week after coming in at a school-record position of No. 39 in the RPI Rankings, the Ladyjacks moved up to No. 38 this week to set a new school-record. SFA is also ranked 7th in the NSCAA Central Regional rankings and No. 47 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top-64 national rankings.

    Southland Conference Champs: For a second straight season and the seventh time overall in SFA history, the Ladyjacks won the Southland Conference regular season title with their 3-1 win over Lamar on Oct. 21. 

    Second-Most Shutouts In The Nation: The Ladyjacks finished the season tied for second in the nation with 13 shutouts, joining Marquette and Georgetown and just one shy of national leader Florida State. SFA also finished second in the nation in shutout percentage (.722).

    Louw Becomes All-Time SFA Points Leader: With an assist in the 38th minute against Sam Houston State on Oct. 19, senior midfielder Kylie Louw became the all-time leader in SFA history with her 92nd career point. Louw surpassed the previous mark held by Amanda Alders (91 points). Louw went on to add three more points against Lamar with a goal and an assist and now has 95 career points.

    Louw A National Leader: Senior midfielder and SLC Player of the Year Kylie Louw finished the regular season first in the country in assists per game (0.71) and second in total assists (12).

    Most Wins in School History: SFA won their 15th game on Friday against Nicholls, matching the 2011 and 2003 squads as the only teams to win 15 games in a single-season. SFA can set the all-time wins record on Friday with a win.

    Home Is Where The Wins Are: The Ladyjacks finished the 2012 regular season with 22 straight home victories dating back to 2009. Their last loss was against UTEP on Sept. 3, 2010 (2-1 OT). Even more impressive the Ladyjacks have not lost a Southland Conference home match since Oct. 11, 2009. 

    Title Town: The SFA women’s soccer program has brought an unprecedented seven Southland Conference regular-season championships back to Nacogdoches. That total is nearly half of the 15 possible regular-season titles in SLC Soccer history.
