Kendal Newton joined the Ladyjacks coaching staff on June 26, 2012, and will serve as an assistant coach under head coach Gay McNutt.

Newton, who played outfield for the Ladyjacks from 2007-10, was a three-time all-conference selection and was the first player in SFA history to be named the Southland Conference Player of the Year (2010). Newton was also named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Central Region second-team.

A native of Palmer, Texas, Newton finished with a .338 career batting average while starting in 220 of 222 career games. Harper also scored 125 runs, collected 230 hits, hit nine home runs and had 73 RBI's. The Palmer High School graduate still holds the all-time SFA records in hits (230), at-bats (681) and triples (14).

Newton played a key role in the Ladyjacks first Southland Conference title (2010), hitting .338 with 20 runs batted in. She started 48-of-49 games in the SFA outfield and was first on the team in total bases with 88. Palmer pounded out 53 hits in 157 at-bats including eight doubles, three triples and seven home runs.

Newton also helped the 2008 Ladyjacks squad win the program's second SLC Tournament title in school history, defeating Nicholls State 2-1 in the championship tilt.
