SFA Drops Pair To 24th Ranked Texas A&M
Feb. 4, 2003
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The SFA softball team dropped both ends of a non-conference doubleheader to the 24th ranked Texas A&M Aggies Tuesday evening in College Station by scores of 1-0 and 4-3. The second game went extra innings, with the Aggies winning in the ninth.
SFA (2-2) got another great performance from Crissy Autry in the opener as Autry allowed only one hit in six innings of work while striking out ten batters. The one hit was a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to the number three hitter in the lineup, Adrian Gregory. That would prove to be all the Aggies would need as A&M Pitcher Jessica Slatapar threw a no-hitter at the 'Jacks.
Devin Cobb (1-0) started game two and worked 3.2 innings, allowing three runs on four hits while also striking out two batters before giving way to Traci Moore, who shut down the Aggies for three innings in relief. After allowing the Aggies three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, SFA battled right back with three runs of their own to tie the score in the top of the fifth.
With two outs, junior Jaime Brown singled to center to start a two out rally. Meryl McGuire then reached on an error. With two on, Carrie Woydziak then hit a shot back to the mound which was misplayed allowing both Brown and McGuire to score. Woydziak went all the way to third on the play. Crista Hargrove then singled home the tying run one batter later, but was stranded when Lee Lara grounded out to end the inning.
Autry (1-2) came on in relief in the seventh inning and struck out Gregory to end the inning, sending the game to extra innings. Neither team could score in the eighth, with SFA getting a baserunner in the top of the ninth when Hargrove singled, but could not get her around.
Adrian Gregory hit her second home run of the night in the bottom of the ninth to give A&M the win.
SFA returns to action this weekend at the LSU tournament in Baton Rouge, La.
