LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Ladyjacks dropped a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday evening at McNeese State with the Cowgirls getting the best of Stephen F. Austin by the totals of 9-5 and 8-0.
SFA (3-7) could not get its offense going against the preseason favorite in the Southland Conference in the nonconference doubleheader. McNeese State (7-5) got hot early on in the first game with four runs in the bottom of the first inning on just one hit due to three walks and an error. The Cowgirls’ only hit was a home run. McNeese again had the sticks going in the third with three more runs to take a quick 7-1 lead.
The Ladyjacks made a push late with four runs in the sixth inning on four hits. The comeback would come up short, however, with McNeese State’s initial charge was too much. Shalie Day again led the Ladyjacks at the plate hitting 3-for-4 in the opener.
In the second game of the doubleheader, McNeese again struck quickly with a pair of runs in the first inning. The Ladyjacks were unable to muster any offense with only one hit as McNeese added three more runs in the fifth and sixth innings to end the game in six, 8-0.
SFA heads to Denton this weekend for the Texas Shootout hosted by North Texas. The Ladyjacks will face Sam Houston State, Abilene Christian, Prairie View A&M and hosting UNT beginning on Friday.
