LAFAYETTE, La. -
The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team defeated the Missouri Tigers, 2-1, at the Mardi Gras Classic in Lafayette, La., Friday afternoon.
The Ladyjacks exploded with two runs in the first inning. That would be all the offense the Ladyjacks would need as starting pitcher Traci Moore pitched three scoreless innings and sophomore came on in relief to pick up the victory. Carter pitched four innings surrendering one run on run hit.
The Tigers scored their lone run in their half of the sixth inning.
Nicole Carter, Sophomore of Sacramento, California, was the winning pitcher. She finished the last four innings with one run and one hit.
Traci Moore, Sophomore of Fort Worth, Texas, was the starting pitcher for three of the seven innings and had two hits and no runs.
Freshmen Heather Hebert went 2-3 and scored a run. Sophomore Carrie Woydziak also recorded two hits and drove in a run. Sarah Stone and Crista Hargrove each recorded a hit.
The Ladyjacks return to action in the Mardi Gras Classic Friday against Prairie View A&M. The game is scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m.
