DENTON, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin bats stayed hot for the Ladyjacks’ first game of two on Saturday but could not keep the runs coming for game two as SFA bested Abilene Christian and fell to North Texas at the Texas Shootout.
SFA (6-8) blasted another pair of home runs on Saturday morning against ACU with Elizabeth Arana and Brittany Lewis going deep this time to help the Ladyjacks defeat the Wildcats 8-3.
Arana hit 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Lewis also went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Outfielder Linsday Campbell also had a solid day at the plate going 3-for-3 and scoring once.
The Ladyjacks trailed ACU 2-1 until the fifth inning when SFA put six runs on the board. SFA loaded the bases with just one out. Nicole Wooten would single up the middle to drive in two runs. Then, Arana also singled and brought two runs home before Lewis would clear the bases with a two-run blast and put SFA on top 7-2.
SFA would add an insurance run in the top of the seventh as Lewis got the win on the mound throwing a complete game and allowing three runs on 10 hits.
In the second game, SFA was not as fortunate at the plate with North Texas holding the Ladyjacks to just one run on two hits with the Mean Green getting the win 8-1 in five innings. Lewis and Shalie Day would post SFA’s only hits of the game.
North Texas scored its eight runs on nine hits and an error by SFA.
The Ladyjacks will close its weekend at the Texas Shootout hosted by UNT on Sunday morning when SFA faces Sam Houston State again at 9 a.m. SFA bested the Bearkats earlier in the tournament by the score of 8-6 thanks in part to the bat of Lewis and fellow freshman Katelyn Standley.
