SAN MARCOS, Texas -
Texas State closed out a three-game Southland Conference sweep of Stephen F. Austin Sunday with a 3-1 verdict. The Ladyjacks dropped three games on the weekend by a combined total of just five runs.
SFA falls to 4-18 on the year and 1-5 in Southland play, while the Bobcats move to 10-12 overall and 3-3 in league action.
Texas State drew first blood with a run on a Haley Lemons sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first.
SFA left at least one runner on base in each of the first four innings before finally tying the score with a run in the fifth. Bethany Brown got a one-out double to left, then scored on a single by Amber Price.
But the Bobcats got a two-run homer from McKenzie Baack with two outs in the bottom half to retake the lead. SFA got two on in the sixth but left both runner stranded and couldn't get a run out of a two-out double by Elizabeth Arana in the seventh.
Senior Monika Covington (1-11) worked all six innings for SFA, giving up two earned runs on five hits and three walks. She struck out seven.
Lauren Luetge went 2-for-3 to lead SFA at the plate. Brown, Price and Arana each hit safely once.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action Wednesday, when they host ULM. The game against the Warhawks is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start from SFA Field.
