HOUSTON, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a pair of wins at Houston Baptist Wednesday in a doubleheader at Husky Field. SFA (11-25, 2-8) won game one by a score of 3-1 and followed that up with a 3-0 victory in game two.

The Ladyjacks got tremendous pitching performances from both Angela White and Carlie Thomas, the two combining for 14 innings pitched while allowing just one earned run on nine hits, four walks and three strikeouts.

In game one SFA actually fell behind 1-0 in the third inning when HBU shortstop Michaela Granchelli hit an RBI single down the right field line to plate Rebecca Rademacher from third base. The Ladyjack offense responded immediately though, ending the Huskies momentum with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning.

Amber Price led off the frame with a walk and then after Faith Hoisager fouled out, Price stole second base. Elizabetha Arana took advantage of the scoring opportunity with an RBI double to right-center field, knotting up the score 1-1. Jessica Arana gave SFA their first lead of the game two batters later with a run-scoring single up the middle to plate her sister and put the Ladyjacks on top 2-1.

SFA tacked on another run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI double from freshman first baseman Kaitlyn Mixon, scoring Cadie Weaver from first base and making the score 3-1.

That scoring would prove to be more than enough for White, who allowed just three baserunners the rest of the game, finishing the afternoon with a line of seven innings, seven hits, one earned run and two walks.

HBU tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning by getting the first two runners on base on back-to-back singles but White closed the game with three consecutive outs to earn the victory (5-12). Sarah Shotton took the loss in the circle for the Huskies, falling to 2-8 by allowing two earned runs in 3.1 innings of work.

In game two Carlie Thomas threw a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out four and walking two to improve her record to 6-9. Offensively the Ladyjacks compiled a season-high 11 hits, including a team-high three knocks from Elizabeth Arana, en route to the 3-0 victory.

The Ladyjacks carried their momentum from the game one win into the first inning of game two, scoring two runs on four hits. Hoisager got SFA on the board with an RBI double and two batters later, Weaver made the score 2-0 with a run-scoring single to left field.

Mixon added her second RBI of the day in the sixth inning with a run-scoring single to center field to make the final score 3-0.

SFA will return to conference action this weekend when they face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a Friday-Saturday series beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday.
