NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA Ladyjack softball team (25-24, 9-12) fell to Nicholls State Sunday afternoon by a 1-0 final. Nicholls State swept the series three games to none.
SFA wasted a brilliant pitching performance from Crissy Autry as she gave up only one unearned run while striking out a season high 14 Nicholls State batters. Autry gave up only three hits on the afternoon, one coming in the seventh inning with a runner on first base following an error. A single to right field by the leadoff batter, Eads moved a runner to third base with two outs. The run later scored on a throwing error by catcher Sarah Stone on a pick-off attempt at third base.
The 'Jacks had their chances on the afternoon but could not come up with a hit when they needed it, stranding six runners along the way.
SFA was held to six hits with Devin Cobb, the designated hitter, going 2-2 at the plate. She was the only SFA hitter with more than one hit. Jaime Brown, Ragen Rutherford, Brooke Chandler and Sarah Stone all had one hit each.
The 'Jacks were shut out in game two yesterday by a 4-0 score and have not scored a run in 22 innings. SFA scored three runs in the first inning of game one of the series.
SFA hosts the University of Alabama-Birmingham Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Coy Simms Softball Complex.
