NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks' offense came alive and Carlie Thomas earned two victories in the circle in an impressive doubleheader sweep over second-place McNeese State Monday afternoon at the SFA Softball Field.

SFA (13-27, 4-10) came into action on Monday batting just .192 as a team but put out their frustrations on the Cowgirls with a season-high 14 hits and nine runs in a 9-8 victory in game one followed by a start-to-finish grind-out performance from Thomas in a 4-1 win in the second game.

The Ladyjacks first victory was of the walkoff variety, their second this season. With the game tied 8-8 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Charlotte Singleton started the rally with a leadoff double off the center field wall and later advanced to third on a wild pitch from Cowgirl relief pitcher Tiffany Denham. Amber Price then came through with the biggest hit of the afternoon, an RBI single to right field to plate Singleton as the winning run.

SFA had taken a commanding 8-2 lead in the third inning by putting up five runs on six hits in the frame. Cadie Weaver, Singleton and Price all had RBI hits in the inning and SFA looked well on their way to victory.

However, in the fifth inning the Cowgirls (25-12, 10-4) answered with a five-run explosion of their own against SFA, cutting the defecit to 8-7 and starting pitcher Angela White was replaced by Thomas. The sophomore escaped the inning without further damage but did allow a game-tying RBI single to Alanna DiVittorio in the sixth inning, driving home Lauren Langner who had just tripled.

Thomas was credited with the victory in the circle, improving her record to 7-10 on the season by going 2.2 innings while allowing the one earned run on three hits. White lasted 4.1 innings and gave up seven earned runs on eights hits while striking out three.

In game two Thomas continued what she started in the first contest, pitching seven complete innings while escaping several Cowgirl threats. The sophomore allowed 11 hits but walked just two batters to run her record to 8-10.

SFA did all their damage offensively in the first two innings, scoring the first run of the game in the first inning. Brown eventually came home to score on an RBI ground out by Elizabeth Arana. In the second inning SFA scored three more runs on three hits off McNeese State starting pitcher Denham. Price had the big hit in the inning, a two-run RBI single to left field to score both Brown and Linda Linares. One batter later Faith Hoisager made the score 4-0 with a run-scoring single to right field.

Thomas then shutdown the Cowgirl offense other than a single run in the sixth but got Langner to ground out with two runners on the end the threat. She also finished the seventh inning off by getting Dani Price to pop out to shortstop, stranding two runners on base. In total the Cowgirls left 12 runners on base in game two.

The Ladyjacks will look to build off the impressive sweep with a 4:30 p.m. home game against Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday. They will then host Central Arkansas this weekend on Friday (4 p.m.) and Saturday (12 p.m.).
