RUSTON, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks exploded for a combined seven runs in the third and fourth innings to to break the game open and defeat Louisiana Tech 9-3 Wednesday evening at the Lady Techster Softball Complex.
SFA (13-30, 4-12) matched their season-high in runs, scoring nine times for the third time this season. Bethany Brown, Amber Price and Elizabeth Arana all had two hits and two RBI's apiece. Ladyjack starting pitcher Angela White earned her sixth victory of the season with her 12th complete game. The junior allowed three earned runs on five hits and struck out five.
The Ladyjacks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the third inning thanks to some clutch two-out hitting. After a Jessica Arana ground out and a Charlotte Singleton fly out, Linda Linares started the rally with a single up the middle. Following a wild pitch from Lady Techsters starting pitcher Erin Kipp, Brown lined a double to the right-center field gap to plate Linares and make the score 1-0. Price then followed with an RBI single of her own to score Brown and push the SFA lead to 2-0.
Louisiana Tech (19-26) had an answer in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs off White which included a game-tying two-run home run by Meg Knowles to center field.
SFA would put the game away in the fourth inning, sending nine batters to the plate, resulting in five runs on three hits. Elizabeth Arana began the frame by blasting her team-leading fourth home run of the season. Brown and Price would later hit back-to-back RBI singles with the bases loaded.
The Ladyjacks took advantage of four Lady Techster errors on the evening, scoring six unearned runs at night's end.
The Ladyjacks will return to Southland Conference action this weekend when they travel to Hammond, La. to take on Southeastern Louisiana beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
