HAMMOND, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning en route to a 7-5 extra-inning victory over the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions Friday evening at the North Oak Park.

SFA (15-30, 5-12) won their first extra-inning game of the season after starting 0-4. The Ladyjacks pounded out 14 hits and had four player with multiple hits, including three from Faith Hoisager

The critical ninth inning was jump-started by a leadoff double from Hoisager against SLU relief pitcher Kenna Terry. One batter later Elizabeth Arana gave SFA the lead for good with a double of her own to center field to make the score 8-7. Two batters later freshman Kaitlyn Mixon provided SFA some insurance with a double to right field to plate Arana and push the lead to 9-7.

Carlie Thomas pitched 3.1 innings of one-run softball in relief of starting pitcher Angela White. Thomas improved her record to 9-12 with the victory, allowing just two hits and an earned run against 12 batters faced.

The Ladyjacks had jumped out to a 4-0, scoring two runs in the first inning and one in each of the third and the fourth innings. However, over the final four innings the Lady Lions chipped away at the lead with one in the fourth, three in the sixth and a game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out RBI double from Kayla Elswick.

Along with Hoisager, SFA got multiple-hit performances from Arana (2), Bethany Brown (2), Amber Price (2) and Jessica Arana (2).

The Ladyjacks and Lady Lions will square off again tomorrow at 12 p.m. Following that game SFA will have one more road at North Texas on Wednesday, April 2 before closing the season at home against UTSA on April 4/5.
