NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The North Texas Mean Green softball rallied in extra innings to defeat the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks, 2-1 Wednesday afternoon in the 2013 non-conference finale for both teams.

SFA (14-31, 7-16) entered the seventh inning with a 1-0 lead and starting pitcher Angela White recorded the first two outs before UNT (27-22) put together a rally to tie the game. Center fielder Jackie Miller singled and Karly Williams then drew a walk from White. After a White wild pitch moved pinch runner Madison Tierney to third, catcher Bryana Wade tied the game with a bloop single over the drawn in infield into shallow right field.

The Mean Green took the lead for good in the top of the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Dani Hoff, making the final score of 2-1. SFA's Alisa Hamilton managed to draw a leadoff walk in the bottom of the eighth inning but UNT starting pitcher Ashley Kirk retired the next three batters.

The game was scoreless for the first five innings until SFA took an initial 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single up the middle from shortstop Elizabeth Arana, plating Bethany Brown from second base. The RBI was Arana's team-leading 23rd of the season and she finished the afternoon with two hits to raise her team-best batting average to .398.

White (5-17) was the hard-luck losing pitcher despite allowing just two earned runs over eight innings on seven hits and struck out nine batters. Kirk improved to 14-8 surrendering just the one earned run on three hits and also struck out nine.

The Ladyjacks will next welcome in Southeastern Louisiana in a three-game series that begins this Saturday with a doubleheader that starts at 1 p.m. Saturday will also be Senior Day where the Ladyjacks will honor seniors Brown and White. SFA will then end the season on Sunday with another 1 p.m. start.
