SFA 3-SLU 1
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions 3-1 in the season finale Sunday afternoon at the SFA Softball Field.
SFA (16-32, 9-17) was actually held without a hit by SLU (31-20, 13-13) over the first five innings by starting pitcher Taylor Bishop before exploding for the three runs on three hits in the sixth. First baseman Charlotte Singleton broke up the no-hitter with a leadoff single to left field and then advanced to second when outfielder Alisa Hamilton tried to laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached first on a throwing error.
A wild pitch then moved both runners up a base and junior shortstop Elizabeth Arana took advantage by delivering a two-run double off the center field wall to give SFA the lead for good. Senior Bethany Brown pushed across an insurance run one batter later with an RBI single to left field to score Arana, making the final score of 3-1.
SFA found themselves in position to win thanks to superb pitching from senior Angela White, who along with Brown was honored before the game on Senior Day. White picked up her seventh win of the year by going the distance, allowing one earned run on just four hits and two walks.
