SFA Softball Set To Open Season In Tempe

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will kick off the 2013 season on Thursday when they begin a stretch of 18 straight games away from Nacogdoches with a 5 p.m. (CT) first pitch against Oregon State at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. on the campus of Arizona State.

SFA, who was picked to finish fifth in the Southland Conference Coaches' Poll and seventh in the SID Poll, will follow the Oregon State contest with games against San Diego State (1:30 p.m.) and No. 5 Oregon (4 p.m.) on Friday. The Ladyjacks will finish the three-day tournament by facing Creighton (10 a.m.) and Boise State (5:30 p.m.) on Saturday.

The Ladyjacks are coming off a 2012 campaign in which they went 16-33 overall and 6-14 in conference play, finishing ninth in league play. Head coach Gay McNutt is entering her 19th season overall and sixth at SFA and is just four wins shy of 500 career wins (496-531).

SFA returns eight letter-winners and four starters while losing six lettermen and five starters. SFA junior utility infielder Elizabeth Arana and junior pitcher Carlie Thomas were named to the SLC Preseason All-Conference Second Team.
