The SFA softball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the UT-Arlington Collegiate Softball Tournament Friday in Arlington with a 3-2 win over Utah, and an 8-0 loss to number five ranked Oklahoma. SFA returns to action with games Saturday and Sunday.
In game one Friday, SFA managed only five hits off Utah pitching, but made te hits count scoring three runs to move to 3-0 on the season. Traci Moore (2-0) started and went the distance and made the runs stand up as she allowed two runs on eight hits. Sophomore outfielder Yvette Bass was 1-3 on the afternoon with a run scored and an RBI. Second baseman Meryl McGuire went 1-4 with a run scored and catcher Sarah Stone also scored after reaching base on a walk.
In the second game of the afternoon, the SFA bats struggled against Oklahoma, managing only three hits. OU meanwhile scored eight runs on eight hits off two SFA pitchers. Sophomore Kristin Nolan started and lasted 2.2 innings, giving up seven runs on four hits, but walking seven batters. Traci Moore cam on in relief and allowed one run on two hits in two innings of work.
