NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin softball will play its home opener on Wednesday when the Ladyjacks take on Texas Southern at 4 p.m. The Ladyjacks have played 15 games so far this season on the road and look to grab a win at home before heading to another weekend tournament on the road.
SFA (6-9) this season has seen a pair of freshmen step up at the plate early on with Brittany Lewis and Katelyn Standley both performing well last weekend at the Texas Shootout. Sophomore Shalie Day also has been slugging the ball and earned Southland Conference Hitter of the Week honors following the second week of the season.
Senior short stop Elizabeth Arana is one of the top players in the league as she ranked first in the Southland last year in batting average and second in on base percentage a year ago.
Carlie Thomas has performed well for the Ladyjacks on the rubber as well with a complete game shutout of No. 8 Nebraska at a tournament hosted by Houston. That victory helped her win Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
Texas Southern (5-3) has just one senior on the roster but still boasts a lot of experience with a number of juniors. Last season, the Lady Lions went 33-16.
Fans can buy tickets at the gate at the SFA Softball Field. Adults are $4 for adults and $3 for children ages 9-18. Children under 8 years old get in free. SFA students get in free with their student ID.

Ladyjacks Throttle Texas Southern
The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack pitching staff turned in another gem Tuesday night as sophomore Kari Hugie and freshman Magen Butler combined to hold Texas Southern to one run in a pair of complete-game victories, sweeping the evening doubleheader against the Lady Tigers. SFA won the opener, 4-0, then broke out the bats for a 12-1 victory in the nightcap.
