HUNTSVILLE - Texas -- Sam Houston (9-10, 3-0) completed a three game sweep of the SFA softball team late Sunday afternoon with a 4-2 win over the 'Jacks. The game was delayed over two hours due to rain and was called after six innings because of darkness.
The 'Jacks (5-10, 0-3) fell for the third straight game to the Bearkats with Crissy Autry (3-5) taking the loss in all three games. Autry started and worked 3.1 innings Sunday allowing three runs on only two hits while striking out three and walking two. Autry was touched for a three run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning and left the game for freshman Dawn Thomas. Thomas was then tagged for a solo shot off the bat of Amber McAvoy to give Sam Houston a 4-0 lead.
SFA countered with two runs on two hits in the top of the sixth inning to cut the margin to 4-2. Crista Hargrove started the inning with a walk and went to third on a double by Lee Lara. hargrove scored on a wild pitch and Lara moved to third later in the inning. Brooke Chandler then put down a sacrifice to score Lara from third base.
SFA returns to conference action Tuesday against UL-Monroe.
