The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team will look to add on to its win column in one of their busiest weekends of the season. SFA will travel to Louisiana-Lafayette to face the No. 13 Ragin' Cajuns in a non-conference double header on Friday before moving on to Lake Charles to battle the Cowgirls of McNeese State in a Southland Conference three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
The Ladyjacks are 9-18 overall and have managed to win only one conference game for a 1-8 SLC record.
Lee Lara is leading SFA with a .370 batting average and six home runs. She also has 20 RBI and five stolen bases. Traci Moore is leading the SFA pitching staff with a 2.75 ERA in 43.1 innings of work. She has a 4-5 record on the season.
The Ragin' Cajuns are currently ranked 13th in the nation with a 25-6 record and have two of the country's top three home run hitters in Danyele Gomez and Lacey Bertucci. Gomez leads the team with a .451 batting average and 15 home runs. Bertucci is second on the team in batting average (.371) and in home runs with 13. She has a team-leading 39 RBI. From the mound, Krystal Lewallen is leading with a 1.61 ERA and a 14-4 record. She has struck out 123 batters in 113.1 innings of work.
The first pitch of the twin bill will be thrown at 3 p.m. from Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin' Cajun Softball Park.
The Cowgirls are being led by Christina Allen who has a .316 batting average and Jana Jones, who has a .288 batting average and 12 RBI. Pitcher Jessica Denham has a 2.71 ERA and a 5-11 record. Her 87 strikeouts are tops on the staff.
The Cowgirls enter the series with a 10-17 overall record and are 2-7 in SLC play.
Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. and the series' finale will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. from Cowgirl Diamond.
