The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will look to add to their three-game win streak this weekend when they host the Nicholls State Colonels in Southland Conference softball action at Hoya Field.
SFA, who is coming off a three-game sweep of McNeese State, broke a five-game skid and dug itself out of last place in the conference and now sits two games back of the sixth and final spot in the SLC tournament.
At McNeese State, senior pitcher Traci Moore pitched a one-hitter in the opening game of the series. In the nightcap, Moore made a relief appearance in an extra-inning game and took the win to even out her record to 6-6 on the season.
She's leading all SFA pitchers with a 2.71 ERA in 59.1 innings of work. She has 25 strikeouts in 17 appearances. She's pitched two complete games, both shutouts in which she was one-hit away from a perfect game.
At the plate, senior Lee Lara remains at the top with a .340 batting average, having started all 32 games at third base for the Ladyjacks. She's leading the team with 21 RBI and six home runs and is a close second with 18 runs scored and 37 hits.
Freshman outfielder Benet Higgs is a perfect 13-for-13 in stolen bases leading a Ladyjack team that is currently second in the conference in stolen bags with 47.
The Ladyjacks have a 4-8 SLC mark while putting up a 12-20 overall record.
Nicholls State is coming into the series in fifth place in the conference with a 7-8 conference record while sitting at 14-21 overall.
Kathryn Harrell is leading the Colonels with a .417 batting average, 29 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and eight home runs.
From the mound, Krystalin Ensming is leading the Nicholls State staff with a 4.63 ERA. She's posted a 5-6 record and has struck out 52 in 68.0 innings pitched. She's pitched seven complete games and has recorded only one shutout.
SFA and Nicholls State will face off in a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m. from Hoya Field at the Nacogdoches Baseball Complex. The series' finale will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
