The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with the Centenary Ladies Thursday afternoon at Coy Simms Softball Complex after taking the first game, 4-1 then dropping the nightcap by a 5-4 score.
With the split, SFA moves to 18-27 on the year. Centenary moves their record to 20-41.
In the opener of the twin bill, SFA struck early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. With one out, Sascha Taylor reached base on a single followed by a ringing triple off the bat of Angela Froboese. Taylor scored on the play to put SFA up, 1-0. Froboese scored to make the score 2-0 on an RBI ground out off the bat of Ashley Moffett.
Cassie Hinton and Kym Kling combined on the mound for the Ladyjacks in limiting Centenary to only one run on two hits for the game. SFA added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Ashley Moffett singled and eventually scored on an RBI single by Erica Henrion. Kym Kling then drove in the fourth Ladyjack run in the game.
SFA touched up Centenary starter Cheyenne Daries (6-13) for four runs on ten hits. Kling got the win for the Ladyjacks to move to 3-7 on the year.
In game two, SFA held a one run lead at 4-3 going into the top of the seventh inning, but Centenary came up with a two-run seventh inning to take the nightcap by a 5-4 margin. Devin Cobb (6-7) pitched the seventh inning and was charged with the loss.
The Ladyjacks return to Southland Conference action this Saturday as they travel to Natchitoches, Louisiana to take on Northwestern State.
