NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks softball team will host the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in the second to last home series of the 2013 season, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the SFA Softball Field.
SFA (12-27, 5-13) is coming off a home sweep at the hands of Northwestern State while the Islanders (8-33, 3-15) dropped two non-conference games at UTSA on Wednesday. The Ladyjacks enter play Saturday in ninth place in the Southland Conference standings and four games back of sixth place Southeastern Louisiana (9-9), who currently hold the last playoff spot.

The Ladyjacks are led at the plate by junior shortstop Elizabeth Arana, who is the team-leader in batting average (.369), runs (20), hits (41), doubles (9), triples (2), RBI (16), total bases (57), slugging percentage (.514) and on-base percentage (.466).
The Islanders are hitting just .224 as a team and have been outscored 259-107 this season. Senior first baseman Meagan McKinney leads the Islanders with a .283 batting average and is tied for the team-lead with 19 RBI. Sophomore catcher/outfielder Mickayla Cochran leads AMCC in runs (22), hits (37), home runs (4) and walks (18). In the circle, junior Constance Brandenburg leads the Islanders pitching staff with a 5-13 record and a 4.69 ERA.
The two teams will close out the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. SFA will then travel to Houston Baptist April 27-28 for their final road series of the year.
