Sascha Taylor and Angela Froboese sparked the Ladyjacks to a 5-0 win over Northwestern State Saturday afternoon in game one of a Southland Conference doubleheader as they reached base four times in eight at-bats.
With the split, SFA is now 19-28 overall and 9-14 in SLC play.
Taylor, hitting inthe leadoff spot was 2 for 4 on the afternoon with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Froboese, hitting in the number two spot was also 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Ladyjacks. Center fielder Jaime Brown and catcher Erica Henrion also went 2 for 3 on the afternoon, Henrion had a run scored and Brown had one RBI.
Cassie Hinton got the start, went seven innings and allowed only two hits in the complete game shutout. Hinton did not walk a batter and struck out two. The Red Oak, Texas senior faced one over the minimum.
Kym Kling started game two for SFA, and pitched another strong game, but once again was the victim of little or no run support. Kling allowed one run on six hits in six innings of work in taking the 1-0 loss. Northwestern State pitcher Amanda Ortego pitched seven innings of shutout ball in scattering six hits to the Ladyjacks, while striking out six and walking three.
Game three of the series is Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Natchitoches.
