FRISCO, Texas – Junior shortstop Elizabeth Arana was selected to the 2013 All-Southland Conference First Team on Tuesday, the league office announced.
Arana, who was an SLC Preseason All-Conference Second Team selection, lived up the billing and then some by leading the Ladyjacks in nearly every offensive category and ranking amongst the league’s best as well.
The Woodlands, Texas native led SFA in batting average (.399), runs (29), hits (57), doubles (12), triples (2), home runs (3-tied), RBI (25), total bases (82), slugging percentage (.573) and on-base percentage (.482).
Arana stepped her game up even more in conference play, leading the Southland in batting over a 26-game span at a staggering .459 clip and finished second in hits (39), fourth in runs (23), third in total bases (57), third in doubles (7), third in slugging percentage (.671) and second in on-base percentage (.511).
Arana was most recently named to the Capital One District 7 All-District Team on May 3 for posting a 4.00 GPA and her accomplishments on the field.
Along with Arana, sophomore transfer catcher Shalie Day was also an honorable mention as a utility player. Day batted .262 in her first season as a Ladyjacks and ranked first on the team in home runs (3- tied with Arana) and walks (25). Day was also second on the team in hits (32), doubles (6), RBI (15), total bases (47), slugging percentage (.385) and on-base percentage (.384).
