Tournament Central | Bracket
The Ladyjacks (24-25, 14-11) enter as the No. 4 seed and face the No. 5 seed Houston Baptist (21-26, 14-13) at 11 a.m. Thursday. The tournament is a double elimination six-team bracket with the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds receiving a bye in the first round.
SFA dropped two of three games at HBU during the regular season. The Huskies come into the tournament winning four of their last six games.
The matchup with HBU will pit the league’s top two defense against each other. The Huskies committed 20 errors in league play to SFA’s 21 as the two teams rank first and second in fielding percentage.
This is SFA’s first appearance in the conference tournament since 2010 when the Ladyjacks tied for the regular season conference title. SFA won the Southland Conference Tournament in 2008 and 1990.
Senior pitcher Carlie Thomas comes into the tournament with the No. 4 ERA in Southland play at 1.98. She has thrown four complete games in conference action and looks to close her career strong for the Ladyjacks. She was selected as an All-Southland Conference Second Team member on Tuesday.
First baseman Shalie Day was named to the first team for all-conference honors with 22 RBI in league play. Senior Cadie Weaver joined Thomas on the second team as a utility player to give SFA multiple all-conference honorees for the first time since 2010.
This week’s tournament, with the exception of the championship game, will be steamed live on the Southland Conference Digital Network. Fans can view the games at southland.org/watch and on the league’s mobile and tablet apps available at southland.org/apps.
Saturday’s championship game will be webcast exclusively on ESPN3. Chris Mycoskie, assistant commissioner of television and electronic media for the Southland, will provide play-by-play coverage for all games.
Tickets are on sale now at $20 for adults and $15 for youth. Single-day passes are available for $10 and $8. To purchase tickets or for more information contact the Southeastern Louisiana Ticket Office at 985-549-5466.
