TOWSON, Md. - Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks junior shortstop Elizabeth Arana was honored Thursday by being named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Third Team, becoming the first ever SFA softball player to earn Academic All-American honors and the lone Southland Conference player from this season.
Arana, a native of The Woodlands, Texas (The Woodlands HS), posted a 4.0 GPA while majoring in Health Science and two weeks ago was named to the 2013 All-Southland Conference First Team. Arana was also a Capital One Academic All-District 7 Team honoree.
Arana led SFA in batting average (.399), runs (29), hits (57), doubles (12), triples (2), home runs (3-tied), RBI (25), total bases (82), slugging percentage (.573) and on-base percentage (.482).
Arana stepped her game up even more in conference play, leading the Southland in batting over a 26-game span at a staggering .459 clip.
The junior finished league play second in hits (39), fourth in runs (23), third in total bases (57), third in doubles (7), third in slugging percentage (.671) and second in on-base percentage (.511). Arana also played superb defense at shortstop where she had a .977 fielding percentage and a team-high 82 assists.
