Stephen F. Austin put 94 student-athletes on the Spring 2010 Capital One Bank/Southland Conference Commissioner' Honor Roll, according to an announcement made Thursday by league officials. SFA's list of honorees was second only to Texas State among conference schools and follows a Fall 2009 performance that saw a league-best 81 Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks make the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

To earn the academic recognition, a student-athlete must post a GPA of 3.0 or higher for the semester during which his or her sport's championship season of competition occurs. The list of spring sports includes baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, softball and track and field.

Of SFA's 94 selections to the honor roll, 14 registered a perfect 4.0 GPA. The Ladyjack softball team led the way with six of its 11 honorees recording a 4.0. Seniors Kendal Harper, Briana Bishop, Karissa Jones and Michele Huffman, along with junior Ashley Struchtemeyer and sophomore Jessica Arana put up perfect marks in the classroom this spring, while capturing a share of the program's first-ever Southland Conference championship on the diamond.

The women's tennis team had two 4.0 performances turned in by senior Tatiana Smolnikova and junior Meaghan Ocanas. Senior Keith Mahipala led the men's track team with a perfect GPA, and five Ladyjack tracksters posted 4.0s -- juniors Randi Wymer, Carrie Hahn and Amy Shackelford, along with sophomore Macy Wade and freshman Brooke Carpenter.

The Lumberjack baseball team landed 15 selections to the honor roll. The men's and women's basketball squads nabbed six spots each. Men's golf registered three qualifiers, while the first-year Ladyjack golf program had two players selected. Eight of the nine players listed on the women's tennis roster earned a spot on the honor roll. The Lumberjack track and field program netted 18 honors, while the women's track squad posted a department-best 25 selections to the honor roll.
