AUSTIN, Texas -
The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team took an early 1-0 lead but was unable to convert that into a victory dropping a 4-2 decision to Wichita State Sunday afternoon in Austin, Texas.
Freshman Margot de Haan gave SFA (0-3) the first lead of the day when she defeated WSU's Veronika Blaskova, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4 singles, but the Shockers rallied for wins at Nos. 1, 6 and 2 singles to take a commanding 3-1 lead.
Freshman Valeria Terentyeva closed the gap when she defeated Wichita State's Carla Venticinque, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 5 singles. The Ladyjacks needed a victory at No. 3 singles to force the match into doubles play but classmate Kateryna Bugayenko came up just short, 6-2, 6-4.
SFA returns to action Saturday when they will travel to Boulder, Colo., to take on the University of Colorado. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
