Feb. 3, 2013
GREELEY, Colo. -
The 72-ranked Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team defeated Northern Colorado, 6-1, Sunday in Greeley, Colo. The victory is the first of the season for SFA (1-4).
The Ladyjacks dominated from the outset taking the doubles point. SFA took victories at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles for the score. SFA held the moment in singles play pushing their advantage to 3-0. Sophomores Malena Gordo and Julian Lorca picked up easy wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles respectively. Gordo ousted Northern Colorado's Jennifer Buchanan, 6-1, 6-2, while Lorca recorded a 6-2, 6-4 victory over UNC's Elizabeth Tapia.
The Bears finally cracked the scoreboard with a victory at No. 6 singles, but that would be as close to victory as they would get as SFA closed out the match with straight-set wins at Nos. 3-5 singles. The Ladyjacks final three victories were recorded by its freshman class - Kateryna Bugayenko, Margot de Haan and Valeria Terentyeva.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday, Feb. 16, when they will open the 2013 home portion of their schedule against Louisiana-Lafayette. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from the Schlief Tennis Complex.
