DeLand, Fla. - The SFA tennis team wrapped up a weekend in Florida with a 5-2 loss at Stetson on Saturday, despite the doubles pair of Roxana Enica and Alina Shazkho picking up another win.
Enica and Shazkho are now 5-3 at No. 1 singles play on the year after defeating Stetson's (3-3) tandem of Valentina Galbarini and Unnati Purushotham (8-6). Shazkho completed a perfect weekend for her individually as well, earning a No. 2 singles win over Breanna Atkinson (0-6, 6-3, 6-3).
Shazkho has won her last three individual matches in addition to her last two doubles tries.
In addition to the singles point Shazkho tallied, the Ladyjacks did pull out the doubles point as well. Gabriela Gadeva and Tatiana Smolnikova defeated Katherine St. Clair and Shannon Gunning (8-6) to pick up the point, their second doubles win of the season.
Outside of that, though, the Hatters did not allow SFA much room to maneuver. Stetson did not lose a single set in singles play outside of No. 2 singles.
SFA opens up conference play on Saturday and Sunday on the road, traveling to Lake Charles, La., and Beaumont to take on McNeese State and Lamar. The match with the Cowgirls is set for Saturday, with the Lamar match set for Sunday.
