SFA Downs Central Arkansas 5-2 In Conway
March 11, 2014
CONWAY, Ark. - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team picked up its second straight match win and second consecutive in Southland Conference play with a 5-2 victory over Central Arkansas on Tuesday at the UCA Tennis Courts.
"I am very happy with the way we competed across the board," head coach Roberto Aspillaga said. "We did not play our best in doubles, but outcompeted UCA to get the match started 1-0.
"Collectively, we overwhelmed UCA with our intensity which is not easy to do on the road. I am very proud of the girls for that."
The pairings of junior Julia Lorca and Malena Gordo and seniors Laura Servise and Rachel Pierce picked up 8-5 and 8-7 (7-5) doubles victories for the Ladyjacks (5-5, 2-0 SLC) to halt the third match with UCA (7-5, 0-2 SLC) and give SFA a 1-0 lead.
The stout play for the Ladyjacks carried over into singles play, where sophomore Valeria Terentyeva, Maxl, Gordo and Lorca, picked up wins in their respective matches.
SFA will play its final non-conference tilt in its next match, hosting Cleveland State on Thursday, Mar. 13, at the Schlief Tennis Complex. The match is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.
