The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision on Wednesday to the Apaches of Tyler Junior College. The loss moves SFA to 8-4 on the season.
In singles, Paola Montuenga was the only Ladyjack to post a victory, recording a 6-3,7-5, win over TJC's Brooke Dennis. SFA's Roxana Enica fell to Mahsa Slupska 6-2, 6-2, while teammate Alina Shazhko also dropped her match to Wen Sun 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. The Ladyjacks' Sanjana Kapur lost 6-4, 6-2 to Tonia Kolovov at No. 4 singles, while teammate Tatiana Smolnikova suffered a 7-6, 6-3 loss to the Apache's Julie Bell at No. 5 singles. SFA's Alice Pacaut fell to Casey Bulls 7-6, 6-4 in the sixth singles position.
In doubles, the Apaches swept all three matches to take the point. The duo of Enica and Shazhko dropped a 8-6 decision to Wen and Kolovov. At No. 2 doubles, the team of Montuenga and Pacaut lost their set to Slupska and Dennis 8-4, while Jamie Williams and Andreea Enica were also defeated by Bulls and Zurek 8-2.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action on Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana. The match is set to being at 1:00 p.m.
