NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team struck early and blanked New Orleans 4-0 in a shortened match at the Schlief Tennis Complex on Friday afternoon.
"I am very happy with the way the girls took care of business today,” head coach Roberto Aspillaga said. “Now we turn the page and get ready for Southeastern Louisiana. They are a very good team and we will have to battle tomorrow to get the win."
The Ladyjacks (9-7, 5-2 SLC) did not drop a match in taking the doubles point from UNO (6-6, 3-3 SLC), before sweeping the first three completed singles to call the match early.
The tandem of freshmen Denise Maxl and Macarena Sedano Acosta picked up an 8-2 victory in No. 3 doubles, as juniors Malena Gordo and Julia Lorca picked up 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles.
The dominance continued in singles play, as Gordo, Maxl and Servise picked up victories in straight sets to halt the match.
SFA will now have a quick turnaround, hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
