NACOGDOCHES, Texas -,/b> Roxana Enica picked up a win in No. 2 singles, but that was all SFA could muster as the Ladyjack tennis team fell 6-1 to Northwestern State on Wednesday at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
SFA (5-15, 3-7 SLC) needs a win in its final conference match of the season against Southeastern Louisiana to keep alive hope for a spot in the SLC Tournament for the second consecutive season.
Enica picked up her seventh singles win of the season, and her third on the season in No. 2 singles with her win over Olga Bazhanova (6-2, 6-7 (7)). Unfortunately, that was the extent of SFA's success as only Alina Shazkho managed to take a set from the Demons (13-7, 7-3 SLC) who are ranked No. 158 in the nation as a team.
Shazkho fell to Adna Curukovic (6-4, 3-6 (10)) in No. 1 singles play and also took a loss in doubles play, as she and Enica fell to Bazhanova and Dragna Colic (8-7) to drop their No. 1 doubles record to 14-8 on the year and 7-3 in the SLC.
Gabriela Gadeva and Tatiana Smolnikova put forth a strong effort in No. 2 doubles, falling (8-5) to Bianca Schulz and Kathrin Lange while Daniela Posada and Curukovic made it a clean sweep for the Demons in doubles play with a win (8-2) over Mary Harrison and Jamie Williams.
No. 3 singles had Gadeva falling to Lange (6-1, 6-3), while No. 4 singles saw Schulz knock off Sanjana Kapur (6-4, 6-3). Williams fell to Posada in No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-1) and Smolnikova was defeated by Colic (6-1, 6-4) to round out singles play.
The Ladyjacks wrap up the regular season at home with a match against defending regular-season champion Southeastern Louisiana at 2:00 p.m. on Friday from the Schlief Tennis Complex.
