NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin tennis team captured one double's championship and had three Ladyjacks advance to the finals of the singles flights, before rain washed out the final day of the SFA Fall Invitational on Saturday at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
The doubles tandem of junior Laura Servise and sophomore Malena Gordo took the Flight A doubles title defeating Lara Pujol and Anastasia Surkova of McNeese State (8-5) in the championship match.
The Ladyjacks had three players advance to the finals of their respective flights. Freshman Kateryna Bugayenko (Flight C), Servise (Flight D) and Gordo (Flight A) were all scheduled to play Saturday morning.
SFA finished 8-4 overall in one day of competition in their host event, highlighted by five wins in singles play. Servise led all Ladyjacks going a combined 4-0 between singles and doubles. Servise's doubles partner Gordo, was close behind going a combined 3-0 with a bye in the first round of singles.
Bugayenko finished 3-1, followed by freshman Valeria Terentyeva, who finished 1-3 on the day to round out the SFA lineup.
The Ladyjacks next compete Friday, Oct. 12, when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to compete in the Northwestern State Invitational.
