SFA prepares for season opener Thursday at Florida Atlantic.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis program opens its second season under head coach Patrick Sullivan Thursday at Florida Atlantic. Following a record-setting 2011 campaign, Sullivan will take his charges to Boca Raton, Fla., to open up 2012 with six-straight days of competition beginning with the season opener at FAU. The match against the Owls is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The 'Jacks will be in Fort Myers, Fla., the following day to face Illinois, before opening the FGCU Hilton Garden Inn Invitational hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. Thursday's match begins of string of 17 days of competition for SFA away from Nacogdoches, before opening the home portion of the schedule Saturday, Mar. 10 against McNeese State.
SFA set program records for wins, winning percentage, win streak, and win streak to start a season in Sullivan's first season. It also marked the first time in program history that SFA received a national team ranking, as well as having a player earn a national ranking in singles' play. The 'Jacks return only one letterwinner from last season, senior Alina Shazhko, but she spent the year playing No. 1 singles and doubles. Shazhko will be joined by a highly touted group of incoming players that consists of freshmen Tereza Bekerova, Malena Gordo, Jithme Jayawickrema, Elena Kordolaimi, Julia Lorca, and Nataly Yoo, sophomore Laura Service and junior Antonia Kolovou.
