NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team will close out the regular season with two matches at home, hosting Sam Houston and Lamar at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
The Ladyjacks (10-9, 6-4 SLC) will host SHSU (4-11, 2-8 SLC) on Friday, before welcoming Lamar (7-12, 4-6 SLC) to Nacogdoches on Saturday.
SFA is looking to bounce back from a pair of losses from last week, falling at McNeese State (7-0) and Nicholls State (5-2). The Ladyjacks were outscored 12-2 across the two matches, being shutout by McN.
Sophomore Valeria Terentyeva and senior Julia Lorca were the only two Ladyjacks to pick up victories last week. Terentyeva picked up a 6-0, 7-5 triumph over NICH’s Kateryna Nakonechna in No. 3 singles and Lorca won 6-4, 6-2 over Klara Skopac in No. 4 singles.
Saturday’s match against LU will serve as senior day for Laura Servise and Rachel Pierce, who are doubles partners in No. 2 doubles. The tandem has amassed a 6-6 record in doubles, while Service has gone 5-8 in singles.
Only three teams have punched their ticket to the Southland Conference Tournament, at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Complex on the campus of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi from April 25-27, as SFA, SHSU, and LU, are all still in the hunt.
