Two Players Receive Academic All-SLC Honors

FRISCO, Texas - Senior Alina Shazhko and junior Jithmie Jayawickrema have been named to the 2012 Academic All-Southland Conference teams announced league officials Wednesday afternoon. Both players earned first-team honors, and were named to the first-team All-SLC team earlier this year.
The duo earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors at No. 2 doubles this season, and received the highest national ranking of any doubles team in conference history (17th). The two combined for a 20-3 record at the No. 2 spot, while helping SFA to its best season in program history. The 'Jacks went 23-5 on the season, won the conference regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
The all-time winningest player in school history, Shazhko posted at least 20 singles wins each of the past two seasons. She went 24-9 during her final campaign at SFA, including a 10-1 record during conference play.
Jayawickrema went 15-10 on the year, including a 15-7 mark during the spring portion of the schedule. She was a versatile player who played at the Nos. 2-6 singles spots, including a 5-0 record at No. 4 singles.
Players must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average, be a starter or a significant reserve and compete in at least 50 percent of the competitions to be nominated.
