The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team traveled to Huntsville, Texas Wednesday afternoon to take on Sam Houston State in the third annual SFA/SHSU Super Dual. The Ladyjacks lost a close match, 10-8.
SFA won two of the three doubles matches in the morning session as Megan Langston and Kama Scott teamed up to defeat Fati Benboubker and Erika Rudich, 8-4, at the No. 2 spot. 2 doubles. Emily Voss and Ashley Johnson picked up a victory at No. 3 doubles beating SHSU's Emma McDougall and Bethany Yurkiw, 8-4. Freshman Laura Harrison and Melissa Bass won their singles matches but the Ladyjacks went into the afternoon session trailing, 5-4.
Langston and junior Robin Houston tied the match at six with their singles victories at Nos. 2 and 3 singles in the afternoon session. After Johnson won her match at No. 6 singles, the Ladyjacks needed to win the three doubles matches for the victory. Houston and Harrison defeated the Bearkats' Benboubker and Rudich, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles but that would the Ladyjacks lone doubles win in the afternoon session as SHSU picked up the victory.
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday when they open the ITA Regional Tournament. The three-day event will take place in Fort Worth, Texas.
