The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team improved to 9-5 (.643) overall and 2-3 (.400) in Southland Conference play Tuesday night, as they beat Southeastern Louisiana (21-30, 30-27, 30-17, 30-27). The victory ended a two-game skid for the Ladyjacks.
After falling behind by a game, the Ladyjacks rallied in game two behind Amelia Mayeaux's 18 kills and four blocks, and tied the match heading into halftime. SFA held the momentum hammering Southeastern Louisiana, 30-17, in game three. Senior Deborah Kirkham and freshman Traci Rohde added 10 kills each as the Ladyjacks took the lead, 2-1.
Game four was a dogfight, as SFA would claim a one-point lead and the Lady Lions would come right back to tie it. SLU took a two-point lead late in the game behind Melissa Jones' 15 kills and four blocks. But the Ladyjacks once again rallied in front of the home crowd to win the game by three, 30-27, and take the match.
Freshman Stephanie Figgers led SFA with 22 digs while Kirkham added 18. Sophomore Lauren Adams finished the night with a team-high 38 assists.
